He said he was selling rotary and other clothes driers from Hills Industries, an Australian home hardware and garden care product supplier.
Premium clothes lines, including the "Hills Hoist", were selling well to expat Australians, said Brodie. But he added that there were "huge opportunities for garden centres" in the sector. "I've been to dozens of centres and their washing line sections are appalling," he said.
Hills UK, based in south Wales, pulled out in 2004 when it lost a contract with B&Q. Vileda took over but lacks a premium range. Hills also produces folding and retractable washing lines as well as sprayers and raised garden beds.
