Campanula 'Bellflower White', caught the eye of journalists from all over Europe who praised the plant's compact habit and bright white flowers.

Fairytale Flowers owner, Kristian Madsen, said he was honoured to have picked up a prize in the horticultural heartland of Europe at the show's opening last night.

Madsen told Horticulture Week: "We have been working on this variety for almost 25 years and the result is thanks to our fantastic breeding team. I believe it is the only Campanula with a true pyramid shape which should help drive impulse sales."

Finished plants will be available in limited volumes for 2011 sales.

Clematis 'Mazury' from Clematis Container Nurseries took second place.

Teffelaar Plants' Begonia 'Bonfire Choc Pink' took third.

In the concept category Kweek Smakelijk's vegetables in pots came out on top.
