CABE's London 2012 critical ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture

Plans for the London 2012 ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture and viewing platform, designed by Anish Kapoor, Cecil Balmond and Kathryn Findlay, have been criticised by CABE's London 2012 panel.

It said the scheme should only be granted planning consent once certain design issues have been resolved. Plans for the entrance pavilion and plant compound will compromise the overall experience and further work is required on designs for the viewing platforms, lift, stairs and downpipes as well as its integration with the Olympic Park landscape, the panel added. The outcome of the planning application will be decided on 24 August.
