AWARDS WON: Garden Product Innovation

Head of sales: Ruth Posey
Tell me about your key goals/priorities as a business for 2019.
We will be focussing on growth after the industry-wide challenges created by 2018’s exceptional weather. We’ve launched products in both our tool and our gift ranges for 2019, so we’re looking forward to their first season. We also now distribute Corona tools from the USA, so we’ll be watching their progress in the UK market.
What do you feel will be the biggest challenge for you as a business (or for your sector) in 2019 – and why?
Our biggest challenge is the ever-changing nature of the marketplace: we offer tools and gifts, available in outlets from garden centres to department stores, and this is a very challenging period for the retail sector generally and the high street in particular. Our role is to ensure that we help our customers thrive in this demanding environment.
What do you regard as the biggest opportunity for you as a business (or for your sector) in 2019 – and why?
Biggest opportunity also comes from this ever-changing environment. We place emphasis on identifying trends and on innovation, and this is a major strength in meeting these challenges. For example, the way people garden is changing, with smaller gardens and rented homes, so we have introduced new product ranges to help people enjoy today’s gardening styles.
What was the best thing about winning a Horticulture Week Business Award for you as a business?
Our win with our RHS-endorsed Ergo Deadheader in the Garden Product Innovation category recognises the importance we place on developing new products to solve problems faced by real gardeners. It also shows we can do this with products that tick the boxes in a commercial sense for retailers, too.
