Kirklees Council told Bradley Nurseries to ramp up the colour across the district. Hanging baskets with red, white and blue flowers have gone up in Holmfirth, while Birstall centre and Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury are billowing with fresh plant displays.
The wave of colour includes 90 three-tier planters, 600 hanging baskets, 935 reservoir lamppost baskets, 140 half-planted barrels and 123 barrier plants.
Plant varieties include geranium, fuschias and petunia, and trailing plants such as golden lysimachia, variegated nepeta, trailing lobelia, begonia and bacoppa.
Hanging baskets on shops and business premises are paid for by the tenants, while the nurseries provide half a million bedding plants a year for local parks and gardens.
