Managing director Nigel Wait's family bought Newbridge, which is also a grower, in 1995 and developed the garden centre side.

Blue Diamond currently has 16 centres and a £70m+ turnover.

Barnsfold Nurseries, the grower occupying the Newbridge site, is a separate business and was not for sale. It will carry on supplying plants to Newbridge and will also supply Blue Diamond’s Brambridge, Redfields and Wilton centres.

A developer has put in a new planning application for a Leeds centre, which Blue Diamond hopes to occupy. The green belt site has a 10-year history of planning battles.
