The BBC says that a second series of The Big Allotment Challenge may not go ahead despite advertising for contestants last week.
The first series is due to air on BBC2 in mid-April and the BBC, producer Silver River and venue Mapledurham all initially said they were unaware of a second series, which would start filiming in March if it was to go ahead.
But an advert has appeared seeking contestants for a series that has the same format, producer and venue as series one, which Silver River filmed for the BBC at Mapledurham in 2013.
A BBC representative said: "We have hundreds of series in pre-production and they don't all go ahead."
She would not confirm how big viewing figures need to be to ensure a second series of the programme, which follows a similar format to BBC hit show the Great British Bake Off.
