Roads and pavements around Bellshill town centre will be re-surfaced, new kerbs installed and paving works carried out.
Feature lighting will also be installed on prominent buildings in an effort to make the town centre more aesthetically attractive and a town square, trees, landscaping and seating will be created in front of St Andrew's Church.
The works, which are expected to take a year to complete, will be phased in three stages.
Scottish-based RJ McCleod is the main contractor on the project.
