Begonia 'Glowing Embers' from Allensmore Nurseries wins National Plant Show award

Begonia 'Glowing Embers' from Allensmore Nurseries has been crowned the 'best in show' at the New Plant Awards at the HTA National Plant Show, which ends today at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry.

Sponsored by ProVar, the awards attracted more than 50 entries and were judged by a panel of five consisting of David Clark, Graham Rice, Horticulture Week editor Kate Lowe, Caroline Owen and David Gilchrist.

Gilchrist said: "It was good to see such a healthy number of entries for this first show. The overall standard was extremely high and we should congratulate all those endeavouring to introduce plants to appeal to garden centre customers."

Chair of judges David Clark added: "With such fantastic leaf detail and vivid orange flowers Begonia ‘Glowing Embers’ stood out as a great impulse buy plant. This versatile repeat flowering plant can be used in hanging baskets and containers and will no doubt have wide appeal to gardeners."

I heard details, asked questions and probed the implications of these changes. That may not sound like a difficult position to be in, yet I am uneasy.
