Banana-lamb draws crowds to Landscape Center

Wolesley's Landscape Center in Widnes took a novel approach to attracting customers with a bright yellow lamb sculpture.

The centre in Cheshire, which was relaunched as a specialist landscape business earlier this year, drew crowds with a replica of a 17ft piece of Japanese art.

The Lunts Heath Road branch, which supplies a range of landscape products and employs ‘landscape champions’ to help customers design their ideal garden, displayed the sculpture at its entrance.

The model, a cross between a lamb and a banana, is one of the many replicas of the original 17ft sculpture that have appeared all over Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture 2008.

The original was made by Japanese artist Taro Cheizo to highlight the issue of genetically modified food.

Landscape Center Widnes branch manager Robbie Surplice said: We are delighted that Halton Council loaned us the striking sculpture.

The iconic sculpture was prominently displayed in the branch entrance and has attracted a lot of interest from curious customers.
