The project is proving a great success and is both an outdoor classroom and a community play space facility at other times. Davies White, a strong believer in this process, along with Gerald Davies and woodland craft experts Touch Wood Enterprises, ran workshops with the children to create their new playground. A meandering concrete path travels through the playground taking children on a journey of discovery and, with an area dedicated to water and sand play, the cradle swings, oversized slide, hollow log, clambering bridge, tree den and swinging acorn pods, there is lots to see and do. The playground contains established trees giving shade and weather protection as well as plenty of seating.

Judges’ comments

"This impressive and thoroughly successful play scheme is the result of a robust design that has considered the needs of children and the local community. The timber play equipment workmanship is first class.

"There was limited on-site storage and carefully controlled vehicle and machinery movements had to accommodate the children and families continuing to use the site throughout the construction."
