B&Q reports rise in sale of seeds

B&Q has seen a 25 per cent increase in the sale of seeds because of rising food prices, environmental pressures and moves towards grow-your-own produce.

The latest Consumer Price Index shows an 11.1 per cent rise in the price of vegetables.

B&Q horticulture buyer Joclyn Silezin said: "TV programmes such as River Cottage Garden and Jamie at Home are showing people how easy it is to grow their own and people are discovering for themselves that doing so can be hugely rewarding.

"By relying less on shop-bought produce and growing their own produce, people are also realising that as well as saving themselves money, they can lessen their environmental impact."
