B&Q profits soar as outdoor sales pick up

DIY and gardening giant B&Q has bounced back after a series of poor results to post a rise in profits of 66% to £137m for the six months to the beginning of August.

The chain's outdoor sales were up nearly 7% on the same period last year, contributing to a 2.6% rise in overall sales, to £2.2bn.

According to Ian Cheshire, group chief executive of parent company Kingfisher: "A stronger B&Q was able to capitalise on better weather and the renewed consumer interest in the home and DIY."

B&Q owns 330 stores in the UK and Ireland, employing nearly 24,000 people.
