Sales of outdoor products including barbecues grew by 11 per cent, having been down 17 per cent the year before.
B&Q saw retail profits of £43m, up by 45 per cent.
B&Q's owner, Kingfisher, reported a 28.3 per cent rise in group retail profits to £227m.
Chief executive Ian Cheshire said: "This is a strong set of results." But he added B&Q expects "no early help from improved consumer demand".
