Aylings Garden Centre burgled for fourth time in a year

Hampshire-based Aylings Garden Centre has been burgled for the fourth time in a year.

During the break-in at the centre in Petersfield, a safe – containing £1 worth of pennies – was stolen and windows were smashed causing £150 worth of damage.

Owner Chris Adam, who lives on the site, said the culprits – who could be seen on  CCTV – were only on the premises for a "minute and a half". He added that the police arrived very quickly but there was "no chance" of them catching the perpetrators.

It is the fourth time this year that the centre has been burgled and the second time in eight weeks. On the previous occasion, two of the three culprits were caught and sentenced to 150 hours community service.

Adam said: "Rural crime is on the increase and there are plenty of idiots about."

The centre – which has an alarm system as well as CCTV – is at the heart of the South Downs National Park.
