Artificial turf makes selection for wannabe Man U stars

Artificial turf firm Technical Surfaces has rolled out surfacing for wannabe football stars keen to win places at a football academy supervised by the manager of Manchester United.

Technical Surfaces supplied the green sward for Nike's Most Wanted road show, which offers a platform for young footballers to show off their skills.

The cream of talent may win a place at the Nike Football Training Camp and coaching sessions from managers including Sir Alex Ferguson.

The road show toured London, Glasgow, Dublin and Newcastle, and Limelight Sports, a marketing and event-management firm needed a soft but durable surface.

Paul Dews, project assistant at Limelight Sports, said: "We used Astroturf for trials across the UK and Ireland in July and August."

Technical Surfaces delivered the carpet the day after ordering and 22 winners won places at the training camp.
