APL WorldSkills UK Landscaping competition finalists named

The finalists in this year's APL WorldSkills UK Landscaping competition have been named.

The best six students and apprentices who emerged from the WorldSkills UK National Qualifiers, held at J A Jones and Myerscough College are:

•                 Douglas Beck - Wiltshire College (Lackham campus)

•                 Sam Gordon - The Gardenmakers 

•                 Brian Hughes - College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise 

•                 Reece McKay - College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise 

•                 Connor Pegler - Warwickshire College (Pershore)

•                 Matthew Wood - Myerscough College

They will now compete at the final at WorldSkills UK Live, formerly The Skills Show, at the NEC in Birmingham from November 15 to 17, after battling it out for three days on tasks such as paving, decking, walling and plant ident, procurement and working to a client’s brief.

The eventual victor will be the UK’s No.1 Young Landscaper– and could be eligible for selection to represent the nation at WorldSkills, the largest international skills competition, in Austria 2020/Shanghai 2021.
