APL survey investigates hire costs for equipment

The cost of hiring a digger for the day ranges from £22 to £225, a cement mixer can be had for as little as £8 a day, while a one tonne dumper can cost as much as £125 for a one-day hire.

The figures are part of a new market report published today by the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL).

The report was based in part on data collected from members, also showed that landscape contractors were paying £36 on average to hire a powered wheelbarrow for the day, £31 for a hydraulic breaker, £29 for a whacker plate, £42 for a rotavator and £175 and £248 respectively for eight and 14 yard skips. The sample size was between five and 30 people, depending on the question.

The APL Market Update report for landscapers and designers, will be updated quarterly, and covers economic data and industry news relevant to members. The "at-a-glance" report is presented in two sections - part one covers the state of trade, economic updates and industry news and part two focuses on a specific topic of interest to landscapers.

HTA market information manager David Denny said: "We are really excited to provide this new tailored resource for landscapers and designers. We want to give APL members the market information they need to save costs and increase sales and we hope that this will be a useful first step."
