APL announces planned push on training and skills

A push on training and skills is planned for the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) in the coming year.

During last week's APL annual general meeting, held at the Savill Garden, Surrey, officers and committee members discussed plans to tackle skills in the sector.

APL chairman Adam Frost has signed up to become a champion for the 14-19 Diploma for sector skills council Lantra.

"I feel very strongly that you should put something back," said Frost. "I'll be going to an induction session next month."

The APL will discuss training further at its next committee meeting on 9 December.

Frost and vice-chairman Mark Gregory will continue in their roles for another year, while Hillier Landscapes managing director Richard Barnard and New Ground Landscapes managing director Richard Penfold have joined the committee.

The HTA is surveying wages and benefits in the sector and landscapers are urged to complete questionnaires, Frost added.
