APHA inspector Chris Snell obituary

It is with great sadness and regret that the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) announces the death of colleague, Chris Snell.

Chris Snell

Chris Snell, APHA plant health and seeds inspector (PHSI) for Thirsk, Northallerton and Tees valley, died suddenly in his sleep, during the night of Wednesday 15 September 2021.

Chris was a highly respected and current member of the UK Plant Health Service and had been for over 30 years. Through his service in APHA’s Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate he became an expert and tutor across many subjects, particularly crop inspection as exemplified by his senior position on APHA’s Seed potato technical advice panel and being the PHSI lead for events such as the International Harrogate Potato show.

He will be very sadly missed by APHA colleagues and industry contacts as he had become a great friend, tutor, mentor and a valuable source of knowledge to many.

APHA said:

"Chris touched all our hearts with his warm and caring nature and our deepest sympathy go out to Chris’ family, friends and colleagues.

"Anyone that would have previously directed enquiries to Chris is invited to maintain their contact with APHA by emailing the planthealth.info@apha.gov.uk mailbox and enquiries can then be managed accordingly from there."
