Allotment play area fuels youngsters' gardening interest

A playground installed by Miracle Design & Play in an allotment with an orchard has won an award for helping to strengthen the community.

The Midlands project aimed to encourage an early interest in gardening and saw a big rise in younger visitors.

St David's Allotment Association, which funded the project, won praise at the annual awards of the Northamptonshire Community Foundation, a 10-year-old local charity that has distributed Ā£5m across more than 2,000 organisations.

Miracle Design & Play worked with the allotment group to provide multicoloured slides, a swing and other kit.

"More than 70 young people regularly visit the play area and it has become a real focal point," said the charity.
