Advice on soil and straw usage now available to growers on AHDB website

Two new web pages giving growers details on how to make the most out of their soils and straw are now available on the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) website -

Both pages give information and advice, including filmed content and factsheets, to growers who are looking to maximise their resources, improve their business’s productivity and reduce its impact on the environment.

The soils management page has been made in partnership with Catchment Sensitive Farming - a joint project between The Environment Agency and Natural England and funded by Defra and the Rural Development Programme for England.

It offers advice on how to assess and improve soil structure and health, soil sampling and protecting the environment.

The straw page offers growers information on how to improve their security of straw supplies for uses such as bedding, mushroom compost and the over-wintering of carrot crops.

It also highlights the different uses of straw, what to consider on ‘muck for straw’ deals and how to avoid straw wastage.
