This yellow leaf is ringed with a reddish pink edge. Gradually the yellow leaf will turn to light green and the edges fade to light pink. Subsequently the leaves become green with a white edge, but its new growth will have again yellow leaves with a reddish pink edge. In late summer the leaves turn to orange red, while fresh autumn conditions can make the red leaves turn to a more red-violet colour. The bark of METAMORPHOSA is green but young growth is light orange and can be striking in winter. The variety has a cut leaf of medium size which are usually 5 lobed, but some have 7. Growth is relatively fast but the shrubs remains compact at a mature age.

It is a finalist for the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year competition 2018.
