Me & My Job - Will Dann, landscaper, Frogheath Landscapes

What does your typical day involve? Every day is a surprise as no two days are the same.

What takes up most of your time? I would say that it's the amount of preparation for each particular job that takes up most of our time.

What piece of kit can't you do without? I guess my hands are the most important piece of equipment. You wouldn't think it sometimes, for the cuts on your knuckles or the mud that can be so thick you can't see your hands. But without them I couldn't do landscaping.

What has been your best experience so far? I was presented with the Apprentice/Trainee of the Year award at the Horticulture Week Landscape & Amenity Awards this year. I was really pleased. I'd never won anything like that before and it was great to be rewarded for the hard work that Frogheath Landscapes and I have put into my training. Presenter Paul Ross came and spoke to me afterwards, too.

What's the best part of your job? Completing a piece of work and being satisfied with it, but also where I work and who I work with. We all get on really well. Despite occasionally having our differences we are all friends.

What's the worst part of your job? Not agreeing on what to do. Also getting thoroughly drenched and muddy.

Do you get out of the office enough? I can't say that I have ever really worked in the office, except when we put the new roof on to stop the boss from getting wet.

How do you relax after a day's work? I like to go to the pub to have a pint, see my mates and play pool. I can't sit around doing nothing though. I've always got to be busy. Snowboarding gets me going as winter approaches.

What does the future hold? Hopefully my own successful business one day, but right now I'm too young to worry about that. I want to see the world.
