What advice would you give to others starting out? Ask as many questions as you can, read as much as you can, visit as many gardens as you can and never be content with not knowing. What's so wonderful about this industry is its diversity and range of sectors - people are always keen to impart and share knowledge.
What is the best aspect of your job? I meet a huge range of people. There is no typical horticulturist, which means the industry is full of a real eclectic mix of people and some real characters. I love hearing their stories. The wealth of knowledge out there that nurseryman and gardeners alike possess can be truly inspirational.
And the worst? Days in the office, whatever the weather. I do often find myself looking outside feeling like I'm missing out on something.
What are your career plans? I'd like to continue travelling the world studying plants in their native habitats. I dream of having my own nursery, growing plants from the four corners of the globe.
