Wyevale Garden Centres launch Waitrose-like community initiative

Wyevale Garden Centres has launched a corporate social responsibility campaign to win over customers at centres it has bought this year.

In newly bought centres Armitages and Raglan, Wyevale is launching local community initiatives to help "win over hearts and minds" of customers.

Customers drop a bulb in a Perspex bin near the tills for one of three community or school spring makeover ideas.

The bulb acts as a vote in a similar way to Waitrose’s ‘green coin’ scheme and Wyevale hopes the scheme will "cement a place in the local community" for the centres.

The pilot Wyevale scheme will roll out in more centres in 2016.

Customers at Birchencliffe can vote for either the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice,Lindley Junior School or Beechwood Care Home, The choice at Pennine garden centre, Shelley, is between Kirkwood Hospice, Shelley First School and Shepley First School. The shortlists were drawn up following nominations and an internal vote by staff at the two garden centres.
