All proceeds will go to support the organisation’s conservation work in East and South Africa.
WWF said: "This is an ideal opportunity for gardeners, amateur botanists and others with a keen interest in plant conservation to leave a lasting scientific legacy or name a beautiful flower after a loved one. The highest bidder will not only get the right to name the species, but will also receive the original botanical painting of the flower by acclaimed South African botanical artist Lisa Strachan."
The new flower, which hails from Cederberg Mountains in South Africa, has star-shaped yellow flowers. It belongs to the Ixia genus.
The by-invitation auction will take place at the Linnaean Society in London on 24 June 2015.
