Trials manager Mark Heath confirmed: "In 2016 there will be no dahlia trial being assessed for AGM (Award of Garden Merit) but there will be a dahlia planting of AGM varieties in the Hilltop borders. I'm not sure how many varieties but it will be a wonderful display."
National Dahlia Society representatives said the move is sad but there are many other herbaceous plants to trial and other permanent trials of plants such as iris, delphinium and sweet pea have gone too. Vice-chairman Dave Bates added:
"They've been terminated. I was a bit upset when they disappeared. We're looking for the best shop window for dahlias and Wisley certainly gave us that." The National Dahlia Show is now held as part of RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show on 6-11 September.
