Winners of the Waterways Renaissance Awards announced

Public open space and landscape projects that revitalise areas linked to the water have been celebrated in the Waterways Renaissance Awards.

Winners included Manchester's 91ha Medlock Valley project, which aimed to create a green resource for the city, and a scheme to upgrade 3km of paths at Leicestershire's Foxton Locks site.

The Waterways Renaissance Awards - run by the Waterways Trust and British Urban Regeneration Association - aim to recognise best practice in sustainable waterway regeneration and development throughout the UK.

Landscape architecture firm The Paul Hogarth Company was recognised in the partnership category for a project to create a linear park through urban east Belfast.

Once complete, the Connswater Community Greenway is set to provide 19km of cycle paths and walkways, create a 2.3ha civic square, reconnect communities via new and refurbished bridges and restore the Connswater River as a community asset.
