The Wrigley family bought back the business on 10 August 2009 and renamed it Whiterigg Alpines UK. The firm is no longer supplying the Garden Centre Group but Wrigley said this meant that it was more appealing to independents.
"Whiterigg used to be in every garden centre, which was off-putting for the independents. But because we're not so dominant now we can have a much improved range of plant varieties," he added.
"Customers will notice a big difference in the range. My dad has grown alpines for 40 years and this year he has concentrated on a lot of new varieties. Our plans now are to look after existing customers and offer our first-class service."
