Lacock, Wiltshire and Bristol garden centres are to use a £400,000 funding package from Barclays to install three new biomass energy cabins.

The cabins are capable of serving the garden centre group's 6,000sqm and 4,000sqm stores and will help reduce running costs by up to 70 per cent.

Managing director Peter Self said: "This is a significant investment for us and comes as part of the wealth of improvements we have made in recent years.

"The age of the premises means the heating and water system installed decades ago has become outdated. This is a great opportunity to modernise our energy supply and in doing so ensuring we continue to operate as cleanly and greenly as possible."
