Whistle Olympics delivers carrot message

The British Carrot Growers Association (BCGA) has launched a "quirky" social media campaign encouraging the public to whistle a tune on a carrot, then post their efforts online.

The Great British Carrot Whistle Olympics aims to engage with consumers while also highlighting the vegetable's year-round versatility and health value.

Videos of the people playing carroty melodies can be posted on the BCGA's Facebook page, with those receiving the most votes having a shot at winning a limited edition set of London 2012 gold coins worth £1,200, with carrot whistles for runners-up.

According to BCGA chairman Rodger Hobson: "Research has shown that many consumers are turned off by worthy healthy-eating messages. Hopefully, this will engage the public in a light-hearted way."
