Website allows nursery customers to compare supplier prices

A devised by Irish company Sap Holdings allows customers to compare the prices of stock from nearly 700 suppliers in Holland, Germany and Belgium. It hopes to add UK growers' stock next year.

The e-SAP website is updated regularly and gives consumers customised quotes, similar to those offered on price comparison sites.

Sap Holdings chief executive Joe Meaney said: "I think we are the first nursery to put our whole stock online. We have the terms set up for each individual customer so the price they see is the price it will cost to get it delivered to their yard."

He added: "The real buzz is that you can see the prices of different suppliers. We are no longer showing what we think is the best value for our customers, we are giving them the ability to choose."

Although UK nurseries are currently unable to list their stock on the website, Meaney said it was a priority for next year.
