A United Utilities representative said: "We won't speculate on what the weather will or will not do, but at the moment our reservoir levels are at almost 91 per cent so we have no cause for concern." The company imposed a hosepipe ban in the north west last year.
At South East Water a representative said: "Our resources are good as we go into the summer with reservoirs and our underground sources in a good position. But we still urge gardeners to use water wisely."
The Met Office is predicting England and Wales to be "drier than average" at the end of April and beginning of May.
