John Lewis total sales in the week were £76.6m, +3.4 per cent on last year.
Director commercial Paula Nickolds said: "The warmer weather had a more positive effect on Outdoor Living which stole the show, up +41.5 per cent. Home Accessories and Gifts were also in positive territory, +3.0 per cent."
Fashion had a good week, +7.9 per cent on last year.
Planning consultant and Birchen Grove garden centre co-owner Malcolm Scott said: "The last couple of weeks have seen good weather and the garden centre trade has done well. Brexit has been a non-event. The big effect has been the falling pound in terms of people importing nursery stock from overseas, but the importers are clever guys at making it all stack up. I think the pound will recover as share prices have. The whole thing is like to 2000 IT crash that was predicted but never happened."
