Waitrose reveal growing trends

Avocado, cauliflower and courgettes were popular in 2015 and goldenberries (dried physalises) and sprouting seed kits are set to trend in 2016.

The report - the third annual Waitrose look at key food and drink trends - was researched throughout 2015 through focus groups and OnePoll consumer research.

Lupin sales triple at Waitrose during Chelsea Flower Show, while grow-your-own fruit and veg are up more than 100 per cent. Top sellers include sweetcorn, cherry tomatoes and cucumber plants.

Waitrose now has more than 100 different English wines and 60 per cent market share, while sales are up 177 per cent.

Wimbledon tennis meant British strawberries were up 11 per cent.

Findings include that people now shop like they are on holiday - little and often, and often after 5pm.
