TV gardening commissioners find spring works better than winter

Seasonal gardening shows appear to be working with TV audiences.

Gardener’s World attracted 2.05m viewers in its 4 March debut, similar to its 2.03m in the same week last year.

Another Monty Don vehicle, Big Dreams Small Spaces attracted 1.64m viewers in later February. It made 1.69m on debut in October 2014.

Several series broadcast in January 2015 but have not been recommissioned, such as Big Allotment Challenge and Sky’s Show Me Your Garden.  Great British Garden Revival, which broadcast in January 2015, has also disappeared after two series. A couple of Alan Titchmarsh standalones also broadcast last december/January. There was no new gardening TV broadcast this January.

Beechgrove begins again on BBC 2 Scotland on 31 March at 7:30pm and BBC 2 Network 3 April, time TBA.

A Charlie Dimmock/Rich Bros series starts in the summer as does a new series of Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Garden.

Meanwhile, BBC2 has recommissioned The Instant Gardener presented by Helen Skelton. For Channel 4, production company Betty is making a series on amazing gardens around the world and Redhouse is producing a Grand Designs-style property doing-up programme featuring gardens.
