Troubled propagator has debts of over £1m

Extent of debt unveiled as Proculture goes into liquidation

Wyevale Garden Centres has appointed former Magnet chief executive officer Gary Favell as interim chief operating officer. Wyevale will hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on 12 September and is being considered for a bid by several equity houses and companies after pressure from investor Laxey, which says the company is being badly run. A Wyevale representative said “whether he stays on depends on the outcome of the EGM” and that “it is not a rethink” to employ a COO as well as a CEO. Recruitment consultancy Whitehead Mann is still looking for a successor to CEO chief executive officer Bob Hewitt. Favell will lead the implementation of Wyevale’s new sales concept (HW, 21 July). He was CEO at kitchen retailer and manufacturer Magnet from 1998 to 2004. # Wyevale will also sell a one-hectare block of land at its Northampton garden centre for a sum of £1.9 million, subject to planning permission.
