Toby Buckland is to be the new anchor for BBC2's Gardeners' World

Toby Buckland is to be the new anchor for BBC2's Gardeners' World, replacing Monty Don, who left earlier this year due to ill health.

Buckland has been a presenter for BBC's Home Front in the Garden and Real Wrecks as well as BBC Gardeners' World Live. His Ethical Garden won him gold and Best in Show awards at this year's BBC Gardeners' World Live.

Buckland qualified in landscape management at the University of Greenwich, following a stint as a nurseryman and gardener. Former clients include Tom Sharpe and poet laureate Andrew Motion.

Buckland said: "To be asked to be the new presenter and follow in the footsteps of greats such as Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don is a thrill and honour."

A BBC representative said: "Toby is known for his inspiring hands-on approach and for his artistic garden features made from plants and recycled materials." The new series will start on 12 September on BBC2.
