There were 48 reports of pesticide contamination, but only four arose in the UK and a further two in the EU. This closely matches the EU's Rapid Alert System for Food & Feed figure of 49 cases of pesticide residues.
"The range of pesticides involved remains very diverse," the FSA's report added. However, the pesticides figure was dwarfed by the number of pathogenic micro-organism related incidents, which stood at 377, of which two-thirds related to foods originating in the UK.
Of the 78 "physical contamination incidents", some 18 involved the presence of pests.
