Possibly one of the most knowledgeable horticulturists in the Thames Valley, he commenced his career in the service of Blagrave Hall, Leicestershire, where he followed a strict discipline of working through each horticultural department on the estate.
He came to Stubbings with his family in November 1979 as estate manager and was soon responsible for the development of its nursery.
He made many friends with those who sought answers to their gardening problems gaving his advice freely based upon a profound knowledge of plants and trees gathered over a lifetime associated with horticulture.
His leaves his wife Sylvia, daughters Lynda and Jenny and sons Stephen and Daniel.
A funeral service will be held at St James The Less, Henley Rd, Stubbings, Berkshire, SL6 6QW at 2pm on Tuesday May 17.
