Suppliers of the plant voted Plant of the Centenary at last month's RHS Chelsea Flower Show are expecting the award to give a significant boost sales.

The winning plant was Geranium 'Rozanne', first exhibited by Blooms of Bressingham in 2000. Thompson & Morgan sold the plant through QVC, achieving sales of 5,000 plants on Sunday 2 June.

Director Paul Hansord said: "Anything that picks up an RHS award has a boost to sales so this will create a lot of interest and increase customers' confidence in the plant. We had dropped it from our range to freshen it up but we've brought it back and it's sold well since Chelsea."

He said the plant would be a big seller, with the potential for sales in tens of thousands. The company is also selling other plants from the shortlist, including the Lupinus Russell hybrids in second place, and Hansord also expects them to benefit.

Kernock Park Plants is supplying four of the shortlisted varieties, including Geranium 'Rozanne'. Marketing coordinator Kirsten Pett said: "We sent out a mailshot to our customers with the plants that were nominated so it is something we've let our customers know about."

She added: "We're putting together our catalogue now and deciding what we're going to be pushing. When anything has a high profile it is always going to help sales and for consumers it acts as a mark of quality."
