Stihl BR85D hand-held leaf blower

Sitting at the top end of Stihl’s hand-held leaf blower range, the BG85D is something special.
What makes this blower stand out from the crowd is its catalytic converter. From the specification, we note that it adds a little to the weight. In use, however, the excellent balance of this machine means you don’t notice the extra grams.
More to the point, it reduces emissions. By cutting the proportion of unburnt fuel in the exhaust gas, hydro-carbons are reduced by 60 per cent.
“From the weight, you have no idea this one is fitted with a cat,” comments a tester.  “The blower works really well, but what makes it nice to use is the fact the emissions are lower. It’s a cleaner machine.”
If you think that adding a cat might reduce the power, think again. We are surprised at the strength of blast this machine gives. The BG85D comes with two nozzles as standard. We use the round nozzle for general clearing and the flat nozzle for an air-blast “sweeping” effect. It has no trouble clearing hedge prunings and cut vegetation, and even sends stones travelling down the path.
And if you need versatility, this machine has it. As well as being quick to convert to a vacuum, the BG85D can be fitted with a three-metre extension to clear roof gutters and downpipes.
