Squire's Garden Centres is on a mission to get people planting this autumn

Free daffodil bulbs are kickstarting Squire's autumn planting campaign.

Squire's deputy chairman Sarah Squire said: "Many people don’t realise that autumn is the perfect time to plant. The ground is warm and the soil is moist, so plants have a better chance of fully establishing and developing a good root system – resulting in a stronger, healthier plant, that gets off to a really good start next Spring. Plants require less maintenance and watering in autumn, and the days are cooler and shorter, so plants have less moisture loss through their leaves. Autumn is also great for the fair-weather gardener, as it’s not too hot, and not too cold, so a great time to enjoy being out in the garden."

The 15-centre group is offering a free bag of daffodils worth £4.50 in September when customers bring in a voucher to help its campaign.

Squire’s Top 5 Plants For Instant Autumn Colour are sedum, Festuuca 'Intense Blue', Aster, Ceratostigma and Japanese Anemone.

The company is also running a Gardening Workshop with an Autumn Colour seasonal theme on 16 October at all centres.
