The county council is spending £34,000 from section 106 money paid by UK Coal to add a 3m-high climbing boulder that will have an easier and more challenging side to suit all ages and abilities.

The work at the 283ha park adds to £70,000 of improvements completed earlier this year including a 50m race cableway, climbing forest equipment and high-energy swings. This was paid for by £40,000 of section 106 money and £30,000 from National Play.

Derbyshire County Council deputy member for jobs, economy and transport, councillor Andy Botham, said: "The new play area is proving very popular and we hope that the new equipment, which has been designed to complement the park's natural surroundings, will encourage even more young people and families to enjoy the adventure playground."
