South West Regional Growers hears staff investment required

Plant sales can be increased by investing in staff sales skills and putting more staff on the shop floor, a packed seminar of growers and retailers heard yesterday.

Speaking at the South West Growers Show, held at Exeter, Ovation Business Consultants managing director Neville Stein said there many things that needed to be done, such as changing our language and using less jargon, building communities, involving children and getting POS right, but the missing link lay with the staff.

"I am totally convinced that if you put more effort into training staff to sell and even put more staff on the floor, you will increase your plant sales," he said

Stein suggested that when a customer buys a plant, staff should make sure that customer goes home with everything they need to ensure that plant is successful and thrives.

Stein concluded: "The more effort you put into training staff, the more staff you put on the stop floor and the more conversations you have with the customers, the more plants you will sell.
