Smart Solar buys garden products supplier Greentree

Smart Solar has bought the garden products supplier Greentree for an undisclosed sum and appointed its founder Gary Ackers, in a new role of commercial director.

Ackers, who built Greentree into a £1million business in the last four years, was previously with Gardman and has been in the garden trade for 12 years. His experience is in purchasing, planning and supply chain management. He will be managing the integration of the Greentree business but will also have responsibility for the entire supply chain and purchasing team.

He said: "This is a great opportunity for me to join a company that has ambitious plans for the future. I am looking forward to playing my part in the executive management team that is leading Smart Solar’s development."

Jonathan Stobart, founder and chief executive of Smart Solar, added, "Gary’s industry knowledge and experience in purchasing and product development will bolster our existing skills and take our supply chain management to a new level."

Smart Solar was set up in January 2003. In 2012, Smart Solar bought the exclusive distribution rights for Haxnicks ‘Love to Grow’ product collection. Gardman founder Paris Natar joined as chairman in May 2013.
