To manage growth and to exploit new market opportunities Masters has enlisted the assistance of two ex-colleagues. Neville Stein, who worked with Masters at Notcutts Nurseries in the mid 90’s and since then has been operating a successful business consultancy practice, will be providing Skylark Nurseries with monthly marketing and sales advice. Andrew Staff, ex chief executive of Notcutts Garden Centre who recently left the 18-strong chain to establish his own financial consultancy, Conatus Associates will be providing monthly assistance with the financial management of the business. Both Stein and Staff will help Masters with the strategic direction of the business.
Masters said: "Being a nurseryman can be a lonely occupation and I realised that to exploit opportunities in the market I needed to bring in additional skills into the business. Neville and Andrew will be meeting with me on a monthly basis to develop plans to grow the business."
Staff said: "There are tremendous opportunities in the market place for hardy plants but in a dynamic and changing market it’s important that production processes are well planned and costed. I’m looking forward to bringing my financial expertise to Skylark Nurseries and feel that along with Neville we have developed a strong team to assist Paul to get to where he wants to be."
Masters will be finalising production plans this autumn with the aim of introducing new and innovative plant ranges in the spring and he "looks forward to working with his new team in optimising growth by building on the sound foundations he has developed for the business".
