Silver award won by Devon distillery

A Devon "micro-distillery" has claimed a silver award at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards for the 2013 first vintage of its Italian-style grappa.

Devon Distillery makes the pomace brandy, which it brands as Dappa, from grape skins supplied by several English wine estates.

Its founder Cosmo Caddy said: "We have had a fantastic response nationally and internationally, with extremely positive comments about both its look and originality."

Judged by a panel of spirits experts, the competition is the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the USA.

Dappa is stocked locally as well as at English Wine & Spirits Company outlets in London.
