Scotts takes US lawn product off the shelves

Scotts Miracle-Gro has voluntarily taken its USA product, the newly formulated Bonus S weed-and-feed off the shelves and replaced it with the old formula.

Scotts chief financial officer Randy Coleman told analysts at a New York City conference last month there was a "spike in consumer complaints" in South Carolina and Louisiana about the product killing grass.

"It’s not to be an issue once we get it behind us," Coleman said.

Scotts said it has replaced "each and every package of these new formula products currently for sale in Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of Florida."

The two products removed are Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed and Scotts Snap Southern Weed and Feed.

Scotts said it may pay to replace product and for damage.

Scotts this year replaced a long-used herbicide, atrazine, in the product sold in the region with another herbicide, metsulfuron.

Scotts said the product was only available in the US.
